Vogel Literary Award winner Sarah Hay's new novel, Texas , will be launched today at The University of Western Australia where she is a student.
The Mosman Park writer's second book, published by Allen & Unwin, is set in the Kimberley in 1985 and tells the story of the people whose lives intersect on a remote station.
Texas is the Aboriginal head stockman with whom a young English jillaroo, Laura, becomes romantically entangled. Meanwhile the relationship between the grazier and his wife, who have twin boys, begins to deteriorate.
Ms Hay's first novel, Skins, for which she won the Vogel, is also set in WA - but on the south coast in 1835.
