The University of Western Australia today announced the appointment of Susan Marie as the new director of UWA Extension - the provider of adult and continuing education programs for the community.

Ms Marie has been Manager, Library and Heritage, for the City of South Perth since April 2006, and was previously Manager, Library and Museum, for the City of Subiaco.

In these and other roles, she has worked closely with staff in many parts of UWA, including for the 2004 publication and launch of the booklet, Walking Subiaco: Crawley and The University of Western Australia.

She graduated from The University of Western Australia in 1983 as a Bachelor of Psychology, and completed a Graduate Diploma in Information and Library Studies at Curtin University in 1989.

Ms Marie will succeed Ms Karen Reynolds, who retires in early July, after serving with dedication and distinction with UWA Extension since 1969 and as Director since 2005.

The University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Don Markwell said Ms Marie would continue UWA Extension's activities in the community, providing public events, short courses, and professional development activities.

"Ms Marie will use her extensive experience of connecting intellectual and cultural resources with the wider community to help the University meet its vision of being an intellectual and creative resource to the community it serves," Professor Markwell said.
