The University of Western Australia's Business School has become the only business school in the State to hold the prestigious European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) international business accreditation.

The UWA Business School was granted accreditation after stringent evaluation by EQUIS which found that in a number of areas the School "exceeded international standards".

The EQUIS Peer Review Team, which comprised the Deans of international business schools as well as corporate representatives, commended the quality of the School, its students and alumni, as well as the strength of its corporate relationships, including the standing of the UWA Business School Board and its corporate partners.

UWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Robson said the EQUIS accreditation was significant recognition of the growth and development of high-quality teaching and research at the UWA Business School in recent years - often with the support of business, industry and government.

UWA Business School Dean Tracey Horton said the international recognition of the School's high quality would add value to the qualifications of our current students and alumni, and help attract more high quality international students to its programs.

"The accreditation also demonstrates the Business School's strong capability to support industry, government and business through our business and executive development programs, consulting, internships, and research," Ms Horton said.

EQUIS is the leading international system of quality assessment, improvement, and accreditation of higher education institutions in management and business administration.  Those accredited must demonstrate high general quality in all dimensions of their activities, plus a high degree of international focus.  EQUIS also looks for a balance between high academic quality and the professional relevance provided by close interaction with the corporate world.
