This month witnessed current and former Business School staff gather to toast successes of the former GSM and its staff.

With glasses of bubbly in hand, former GMA President and MC for the function, Charlie Gunningham welcomed some of the instrumental leaders of the GSM including founder Andre Morkel, previous directors Reg Appleyard and David Plowman, and outgoing director Geoff Soutar.

UWA was the first to offer the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Western Australia, beginning more than three decades ago in 1973. 18 years later, in 1991 The GSM was officially established as a School within the Faculty of Economics and Commerce. Since its formation the GSM evolved with the addition of many courses and degree programs including venturing offshore into Asia, forming strategic alliances with overseas MBA programs.

Since classes began, UWA has convocated more than 3,000 MBA graduates all with individual cherished experiences, a feeling which will continue through the future of the Business School.

At this celebration, the GSM Excellence in Teaching Awards for 2006 were awarded to the following individuals:

  • Recipient of the 2006 Commendation for Research Supervision - Dr Julie Lee
  • Winner of the 2006 Award for Research Supervision - Prof Jane Klobas
  • Winner of the 2006 Award for Improvement in Teaching - Stacie Chappell

• Winner of the 2006 Award for Excellence in Teaching - Prof Gary Stockport

In addition to the above awards, Professor David Plowman and Professor Geoff Soutar were recognised for their contribution to postgraduate business education at UWA.
