To date, 2008 has been a year of highlights for the UWA Business School with many achievements contributing towards our goal of being internationally focused on attracting the best students, attracting and retaining the best staff and building strong links with the business community.

Two teams of Business School students have achieved national and international success with UWA teams winning the national championships of the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) competition and the global Google online challenge.

During July, we have welcomed two new internationally renowned Professors:  Professor David Day, formerly Professor of Organisational Behaviour in the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University to the Woodside Chair in Leadership and Professor Juliana Ng who returns to UWA  from ANU to take up a Chair in Accounting.  We are now advertising internationally to fill the position for the BHPBilliton Chair in Business of Resources.  We also welcome Under Treasurer, Tim Marney, to the Business School Board.

The construction of the new Business School building is advancing and its internal structures are starting to take shape. With the addition of a number of new Corporate Partners and the successful completion of our first annual alumni fundraising campaign (which raised more than $330,000), we are close to reaching our $25 million fundraising target and we are confident of attaining it before moving into our new home early in 2009.

All of these milestones contributed to the Business School achieving EQUIS accreditation in May.  The School has become the only business school in the State to hold the prestigious European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) international business accreditation. The accreditation was granted after stringent evaluation by EQUIS which found that in a number of areas the School "exceeded international standards".

Thank you to all of our graduates who generously contributed to our alumni tele-campaign. Our current students - who manned the phones - were delighted to hear about your career progress since graduating from UWA. Your continued support provides us with encouragement and financial support to continue to create new opportunities.
