Twenty-two students from three major Chinese universities will attend this year's UWA Short Term Study Program. Also coming for two weeks are two high-school students, winners from this years Beijing Association of Science and Technology's 26th Annual Youth Science Creation Competition.

The Program aims to raise UWA's profile in China and demonstrate the facilities and opportunities available to postgraduate students in Perth.

The students, all with science backgrounds, will visit UWA for six weeks from mid-July. Activities will include an English language program, an Australian Cultural Study course and chances for students to develop their science communication skills.

Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences Dean, Professor George Stewart, sponsors the program in his role as the UWA China Ambassador. Program co-ordinators Eva Chye and Matthew Kohler encourage all UWA schools, centres and business units to participate. "It is a great marketing opportunity, because the students will return to their universities with information about their experiences," they said.

UWA is developing closer ties with international centres at the Chinese universities while organising the program. It is also considering expanding the program to other countries.
