What a crazy month it has been! It's hard to believe it has only been three weeks since the campus moved online. I would like to take the opportunity on behalf of all students to thank the academic and professional staff who have been working overtime to ensure students can continue to study this semester. We see you, and we appreciate you.

While it might not have been the smoothest ride, it has been heartening to see our community come together to face this challenge. The promise of leniency and understanding has provided some much-needed relief to students struggling to keep up with the immense amount of change we are experiencing. It is hard to be productive during a global pandemic (for staff and students alike), but I think students have found a lot of comfort in knowing that UWA is approaching this period with a sense of kindness and generosity.

I also try to approach this period optimistically, and see the opportunity in the challenge before us. Out of the crisis have come many policy changes that will make student life easier and I look forward to seeing this continue in the future. It has also been interesting to hear reports back about online learning and how innovations in content delivery might last beyond coronavirus. At the Guild, we've seen online student communities flourish – a space we haven't concentrated on before – and I can see the benefit this will have long term on student isolation and loneliness.

I hope the Easter weekend provides some much-needed time off. If you ever want to speak about any student-related issues, please feel free to get in touch with me .
