The University of Western Australia has a continual roll call of awards, scholarships and prizes presented to staff and students.

To recognise these achievements, an article is published on the UWA news page on the website and in UWA Forward on the first week of every month. If you know of great awards or achievements across the University please email [email protected]

Name: Emeritus Professor Denise Chalmers
Achievement: Professor Chalmers was inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame for dedicating 25 years to scholarly innovation and leadership to enhance student learning and engagement through developing university teachers and teaching.

Name: Dona Jayakody, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
Achievement: Ms Jayakody was awarded the Dr Harry Blackmore Award for her outstanding research work that includes assessing the impact of hearing loss treatment using hearing implants and hearing aids on cognitive functions and mental health of older adults with hearing loss. She also received an Eileen Haddon Award from Rebecca L Cooper Foundation for her research project on the impact of hearing aids on mental health, social isolation and loneliness of older adults.

Name: Dr Mitali Sarkar-Tyson, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
Achievement: Dr Mitali Sarkar-Tyson from UWA’s School of Biomedical Sciences was awarded an Award for Excellence at the DMTC 2020 Annual Conference, recognising her contribution to the development of Australian medical countermeasures. Dr Sarkar is leading a collaborative project developing novel antivirulence compounds against a range of bio-warfare pathogens.

Name: Dr Ana Martins Sequeira, UWA Oceans Institute
Achievement: Dr Sequeira from UWA’s Oceans Institute was recently selected by The Pew Charitable Trusts to join the Pew Fellows Program in Marine Conservation . She will use the prestigious international grant to address some of the most critical challenges facing the world’s oceans.

Name: The University of Western Australia, Career Service Team
Achievement: The University was awarded the Most Proactive Career Service Team as selected by more 1600 global university partners in the 2020 Global University Career Development Awards.  The University was recognised for its strong efforts to promote student employability in the global recruitment market.

Name: Metabolomics Australia, Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis
Achievement: Metabolomics Australia has been awarded four years of federal funding from the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) and Bioplatforms Australia to expand its equipment access and research capabilities.

Name: Assistant Professor Kate Offer, Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Education
Achievement: Assistant Professor Kate Offer from UWA’s Law School was recognised as Woman Lawyer of the Year by Woman Lawyers of Western Australia. The award recognises women who have made outstanding contributions to their legal careers.
