The Australian team is gearing up for one of the largest Winter Universiades ever as the competition kicks off on 2 March.

UWA Sport General Manager Ian Fitzpatrick leads the team as Chef de Mission, a role which he will continue in at the 2021 Winter Universiade.

Ian comes to the role with a wealth of experience, not just through UWA Sport, but also in a variety of sport environments including not-for-profit, commercial, consulting and service sectors.

This year’s competition takes place in Krasnoyarsk, Russian Federation from 2 - 12 March, with the Australian team already making the trip to Siberia.

As the youth version of the Winter Olympics, the Winter Universiade, run by International University Sports Federation (FISU), is one of the largest sporting events in the world.

Speaking on his appointment, Ian is excited by the prospect of working closely in support of a team of talented Australian student athletes.

“The dedication and commitment from these student athletes is world class and I look forward to providing an environment where their hard work can see them grow as students, athletes and people through the World Winter Universiade experience.”
