International headliners prize-winning Nigerian author and poet Ben Okri (below) and Canadian author of Washington Black, Esi Edugyan, will be joined by more than 100 writers, poets and journalists at this year’s Perth Festival Writers Week which runs between 18 - 24 February 2019.

Founded in 1953 by The University of Western Australia, Perth Festival is the longest running international arts festival in Australia and Western Australia’s premier cultural event.

Western Australia’s premier literary event boasts a line-up of guests including American cultural critic and DJ madison moore, Stasiland author Anna Funder and Benjamin Law hosting the The Big Crazy Book Club.

International literary talent includes Singapore-based author Balli Kaur Jaswal (Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows), British novelist Andrew Miller (Now We Shall Be Entirely Free), British writer Amy Sackville (Painter to the King), Greenland-based Danish crime fiction writer Mads Peder Nordbo (The Girl Without Skin), a writer from Abu Dhabi Deepak Unnikrishnan (Temporary People), British/Australian author Lucy Christopher (Storm-Wake), Australian-born and Dublin-based writer Monica McInerney (The Trip of a Lifetime) and writer and Professor of World Literature in English Elleke Boehmer (The Shouting in the Dark).

Once again, the Writers Week Hub will be held at The University Club of Western Australia and will host meal events such as a Gatz-inspired Great Gatsby High Tea with WA historical fiction writer Natasha Lester and Gatz director John Collins and a lunch with The West Australian’s travel editor Stephen Scourfield and musician Scott Wise.

Family-friendly sessions will take place across Writers Week, with a focus on Family Fun Day on Sunday 24 February.
