The University of Western Australia has retained its position as a top 100 university in The Academic Ranking of World Universities for 2018, released today.

Positioned at 93rd in the world, UWA is the top-ranked university in Western Australia and is ranked sixth in Australia.

The result means UWA remains in the top one per cent of universities worldwide.

UWA Vice-Chancellor Dawn Freshwater said the result was very pleasing given the calibre of universities around the world.

“We look to these rankings as an indicator of our strategy performance, both in research and teaching,” Professor Freshwater said.

“More than 1200 universities are ranked every year by the ARWU and only 500 are published. To make the top 100 is an amazing achievement and a great reflection on our staff.”

ARWU uses six objective indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff awarded top academic prizes, the number of highly cited researchers, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, and per capita performance of a university.
