The marquees are going up and the grounds are looking fabulous – we’re in the final days of preparation for Sunday’s Open Day .

From the front end event logistics to behind the scenes, it takes an exceptional amount of effort right across the University to bring Open Day together, with staff in many areas contributing to make the day a success.

Open Day Events Officer (Lead), Harriet Calverley, says the support from across the University has been fantastic and she’s excited for the day and showcasing what makes UWA unique.

Harriet has a strong insight into what prospective students are looking for when they come to campus, having been a UWA student for the past 6 years and is studying towards her Bachelor of Commerce (Management).

“We’ll be promoting our vibrant campus and what university life is all about, while remaining focused on providing essential recruitment information that we know visitors to Open Day are looking for.

“James Oval is being transformed into Open Day Central where we’ll have 12 hubs including a Future Students Hub and Post Grad Hub, plus we have a dedicated stage set to promote our researchers and student entrepreneurs with a Create Your Future theme. Oak Lawn will come alive with activities from our Guild student clubs, and Riley Oval will be a hub of food trucks and beats from EMAS student DJ’s”.

“There’ll be plenty of fun activities and entertainment throughout the day like the autonomous bus trial and Ninja Zone, and we hope to see lots of staff with their family and friends”.

“It takes a lot of work to bring an event like this together. On Sunday we’ll have over 2000 student, staff and alumni volunteers all helping to make the event possible, and these volunteers are key to making the day run smoothly and as a warm and welcoming introduction to UWA” Harriet said.

The creative requirements were project managed in-house and the Open Day website provides prospective students all the information they need to plan their visit to campus and to make the most out of finding out what university life is like.

We’re also getting behind reducing the use of single-use plastics at Open Day. So bring your own water bottle on the day, and refill it at our water stations.

See you this Sunday at Open Day. 10-4pm.
