One of the hits of this year’s Perth Festival was honoured at Australia’s top performing arts awards on Monday night. Early music adventurer Jordi Savall’s performance with Hespèrion XXI and Tembembe Ensamble Continuo won a Helpmann Award in the best chamber and/or instrumental ensemble concert category.

Putting European traditions alongside Indigenous Mexican and Latin American sounds, Savall and a dozen performers revered and celebrated both forms in a thrilling performance of music and dance.

Congratulations to Savall, his fellow artists, Perth Festival and its Australian tour partners Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre and Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
