A range of UWA Athletics Club members achieved podium status at the recent Short and Long Course State Cross Country Championships.

In the open men’s 4km, student athlete and UWA Athletics Club member Ben Chamberlain topped the race with a time of 12.23, with fellow student Jesse Hunt not far behind, finishing in third place with a time of 13.06.

UWA Athletics Club’s Jemima Crosby also ran in the 4km, in the U20 women’s category, with her time of 15.07 leaving her top of the podium.

Jemima also won the U16 women’s 4km at the long course championships, with her time of 14.41 more than 20 seconds faster than the next runner.

The winning trend in the 4km continued, with young runner Sienna Hanikeri winning the U14 women’s 4km.

Meanwhile, Sports Science student athlete Sarah Hynes finished third in the U20 women’s 6km.

Cross country athletes will now look to the National Cross Country Championships, to be held on the Gold Coast on 25 August.
