Dear colleagues,

Each year, the UWA Fogarty Scholarship Program awards 10 scholarships to exceptional young people studying at The University of Western Australia. Fogarty Scholars are academic high achievers with the desire, motivation and ability to positively influence their communities. They are UWA’s best and brightest.

In 2017, a pilot project matched first year Fogarty Scholars with Academic Mentors from the University community. Fogarty Scholar Academic Mentors provide support and guidance through the first year of the university journey, helping students to develop new networks, skills and ideas.

Professor David Sadler, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and I will join the program as mentors for the first time this year. I am pleased to extend the invitation to the academic community to become a Fogarty Scholar Academic Mentor. Our aim is to match the very best of our academic staff with our brightest students to ensure that we support and guide their academic development as they embark on their higher education journey and pathway to a high achieving career. This is an exciting opportunity for both mentors and mentees and I look forward to working alongside our high achieving academic staff members eager to mentor one of our exceptional scholarship recipients.

Fogarty Scholar Academic Mentors will have the opportunity to share their experience and expertise; supporting their mentee to develop the knowledge, networks and confidence that they will need to prepare for successful careers as transformative leaders. Mentors and mentees will be supported with workshops, training and a series of touch points throughout the 12-month program.

Please contact Lucienne Tessens from the Talent and Organisational Development team to register your interest before Wednesday, 6 June 2018.

Kind regards

Professor Peter J. Dean, SFHEA
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education)
