UWA Sport aims to provide primary school and high school children early access to the University of Western Australia with fun and engaging multi-sport day camps.

The recent programs included the Kids Holiday Program , ran from 16-27 April, and the Teen Holiday Program , ran from 18-20 April.

In the Kids Holiday Program, children were introduced to a wide range of sports across the two weeks, with an emphasis on safety, fun, and the opportunity to engage in non-traditional sports alongside favourites such as cricket.

Program regulars the UWA Judo Club made an appearance, introducing children to martial arts in a safe and friendly environment.

The club is one of the largest clubs in Australia, and in 2017 ranked number one in Western Australia.

The UWA Fencing Club also provided a memorable experience for the children, with skills taught by WAIS athlete and Fencing WA High Performance Director Scott Rawlins.

Scorchers Will Bosisto and Joel Paris surprised the children during the second week of the program, dropping by to share some skills and sign their gear.

Program Coordinator Pia Chaffey was pleased with success of the program. “As always, it is wonderful to see so many new and returning faces coming together, making friends, and learning new sports.

“This autumn program was our biggest yet, and I’m very excited about where we can go with the next program.

“Making sure kids are having fun and enjoying a healthy lifestyle sport is important to me and UWA Sport, and I am glad to see so many parents share this belief.”

Meanwhile, the Teen Holiday Program offered teenagers a chance to sample the fun side of university life with a range of outdoor activities that showcased the unique location of the UWA Perth Campus.

This included paddle-boarding and kayaking on the Swan River, cycling to Elizabeth Quay, surfing and beach volleyball at Trigg Beach, and a visit to the UWA Sports Science Laboratory.

With both programs sold out, it is always good to enrol early to ensure your children don’t miss out. You can sign up to the UWA Sport e-news here to keep an eye on when registrations for the Winter Holiday Program open, or head to the website to learn about our new Junior Sports Clinics.
