The Judo Federation of Australia has recognised the efforts of one of the rising judoka in the country by naming the UWA Judo Club’s Rhys Allan “Athlete of the Month”.
Rhys has been having a standout year, and recently won gold at the prestigious U-18 Bremen International Masters in the Cadet 73 kg.
Rhys has been a lifelong member of the UWA Judo Club, joining in 2010 at eight-years-old, remaining committed as he took his judo career to the next level in 2016.
He also achieved gold in the Cadet 73kg and Junior 73kg in Oceania Championships, where fellow UWA judoka Maria Swan picked up a bronze in the Cadets 63kg and silver in Junior Women 63kg.
Late last year, Rhys also claimed silver in the 73kg junior men division at the Melbourne International, as the UWA Judo Club was honoured with rank four in the Judo Federation of Australia 2017 National Star Club Rankings.
