Hockey star and UWA student athlete Georgia Wilson has been named in the 25-member National Senior Women’s Squad for 2018 ahead of a massive year for the Hockeyroos.

The squad will face many exciting challenges, including the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April and the 2018 World Cup in London in July-August, as well as development towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Georgia will join Olympian Katheryn Slatterly as the only two Western Australians in the squad. The experienced Slatterly was full of praise for her younger team mate, who has also featured alongside her in the WA Diamonds squad.

“She’s an exciting player to have around and someone who I think can drive the culture of the group with how hard she works and how much it means to her.”

Hockeyroos head coach Paul Gaudoin said: “The squad we’ve selected is one that we think can help us achieve our performance benchmarks in 2018 but it’s also a squad that can develop to achieve podium performance in Tokyo.”

With Georgia aged only 21, there is plenty of potential for her to establish herself as an experienced player for the 2020 Olympics and beyond.

The Hockeyroos will begin their 2018 campaign with a Test series against Spain in Perth this January.
