Dr. Mark Andrich, one of our UWA Convocation Councilors and former Honorary Research Fellow at UWA, has received recognition from the UN in New York for his company’s innovative fintech product, the SustainablePlatform.com. The Sustainable Platform has helped funds, including the world’s largest asset manager, the $1 trillion Norwegian sovereign wealth fund, to understand which non-financial factors matter the most for predicting portfolio performance and risk. The product was recently recognised by the UN in New York as a “great resource!”, which is the first time and independent product has received such recognition. The product was built entirely by UWA graduates, with input from UWA graduates, including from the former Guild President as well as Maths, Physics and Engineering graduates. The platform is in the finals of the global Responsible Business Awards, along with global giants including Bloomberg and IKEA. The finals will be held on October 16 in London which Mark is attending.
Closer to home, WA Super has recently begun using the platform to understand how to enhance the sustainability level of their investments and meet requests from customers who are becoming increasingly interested in sustainable investment options. Mark also recently met with the UWA endowment team, where topics such as finding companies without slavery in the supply chain was discussed. In September, he will be meeting with Stanford, Caltech and several of America’s largest foundations to discuss how the SustainablePlatform.com can help them manage sustainability risk and enhance performance.
Mark has also been a recent commentator for a Forbes article, written by Dr. Jemma Green, the founder and Chair of Power Ledger, on the role of blockchain technology in supporting sustainability and transparency in investment management. Mark has been on the Convocation council for the past two years. He has Engineering and Commerce degrees, and a PhD in sustainability, from UWA. He is a frequent contributor to the Conversation, and is the author of the The Sustainable Investor’s Handbook: Redefining Value Investing, available from Amazon.com.
