Good morning. On Monday evening the Federal Government announced its higher education Budget decisions. It is disappointing that once again we face further budget cuts; and at a time when Australia
needs greater innovation, research and skills.

The 2.5% efficiency dividend will cut our budget by around $8 million each year and with student contributions increasing under the HELP loan scheme, some may be discouraged from attending university altogether. The budget package also doesn’t address the ongoing issue of the underfunding of research.

The impact these cuts will have on the sector will be ongoing, however I believe by addressing our cost base through the Renewal Project we are better-positioned to manage the effects. We will continue to develop our revenue structure to ensure the University’s long-term financial sustainability.
