Dr Doug McGhie was announced as the newly elected Warden of Convocation at the Autumn Ordinary Meeting of Convocation last Friday night. Doug is a graduate of UWA with a BSc (Agric) Hons, PhD and MBA all from UWA. He has a strong history of service to UWA including being a past President and Life Member of the Graduate Management Association of UWA and Councillor of Convocation for the last four years, including one as Treasurer.

Doug also has a strong sporting association with UWA having played for and coached the University Football Club, with one premiership to his name with UFC. He also served 10 years on the Board of the UWA Torpedoes Water Polo Club, the last five as President. Torpedoes were the University’s first team to play in an open National competition, the National Water Polo League and won the national premiership in 2016.

“I believe Convocation can play a key role at a time when we have a new Vice-Chancellor. It is a time of change and Convocation can be a part of that for the betterment of the University and our members.

“I am grateful to be following Warren Kerr, who has been a tireless and extremely productive Warden for the last four years; he is a very hard act to follow. Warren offered me sage guidance to as he passed responsibility over to me. Convocation owes a huge vote of thanks to Warren, who now assumes the role of Immediate Past Warden,” Doug says.
