The University of Western Australia has had seven subjects ranked in the top 50 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, up from six subjects last year.

UWA’s subjects ranked in the top 50 were Mineral & Mining Engineering, Anatomy & Physiology, Agriculture & Forestry, Performing Arts, Psychology, Earth & Marine Science and Civil & Structural Engineering.

UWA particularly excelled in Mineral & Mining Engineering (ranked 11th globally and up 22 places compared to last year) and Anatomy & Physiology (ranked 13th globally).

Of the 36 subjects in which UWA was ranked, 17 were ranked within the top 100 universities worldwide, including a new subject for 2017 – Anatomy & Physiology.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject highlight the world’s top universities in a range of popular fields, covering 46 subjects, grouped into five main subject areas, in 2017. Published annually since 2011, the rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.

A total of 500 institutions were ranked according to five broad subject areas: Life Sciences & Medicine, Social Sciences & Management, Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology and Natural Sciences.

UWA ranked in the top 100 for two of the five subject areas: Life Sciences & Medicine (55th globally, 6th in Australia) and Social Sciences & Management (78th globally, 7th in Australia). In the remaining three subject areas, UWA ranked within the top 150.
