Good morning. The new academic year is almost upon us.

In earlier editions of UWA Forward I have hinted at some exciting plans for 2017. The Executive and other Senior Leaders have taken the opportunity during January and early February, as we do annually, to revisit the University's strategic plan. Consideration has been given to UWA's core business, focusing on how we want to be known, how we interact with each other and the external environment.

2017 is a year for developing innovative and imaginative ideas, both in research and in teaching and learning. Ideas that will have a significant and positive impact on the student experience, the UWA community and will further enhance the collegiate culture at UWA.

I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as is possible at the All Staff Town Hall on Wednesday 8 March commencing at 3.00 pm in the Octagon Theatre. It will be my opportunity to share directly with you, some of my vision for our university. I will be pleased to hear your ideas, and to chat informally with you over afternoon tea on Riley Oval. This first Town Hall will be the start of a shared dialogue, which I hope will unite the UWA community in our attempts to deliver on our collective ambitions.
