The University of Western Australia has a continual roll call of awards, scholarships and prizes presented to staff and students.

September 2016 awards and achievements

Recognised: UWA athletes Achievement: 2016 Australian University Games and World Sailing University Match Racing Championships.

The 2016 Australian University Games saw UWA take out the Per Capita Championship and the University Games Overall Championship for 2016. A full list of results can be viewed here In the sailing championships held in Perth, UWA’s Will Boulden and crew took silver in the competition.

Recognised: UWA staff at the Australian Awards for University Teaching

UWA’s Associate Professor Paul Abbott, Professor Farid Boussaid and Ms Penny Carruthers have been recognised in the Australian Awards for University Teaching for their citations. The 2016 citation awards recognise the diverse contributions made by individuals and teams to improve the quality of student learning.

Recognised: UWA’s Graduate School of Education Achievement: Graduates announced finalists in WA Education Awards.

Four UWA graduates are finalists in the 2016 WA Education Awards. Principals Douglas Cook from Wembley Downs Primary School, Alan Genoni from Canning College and Damian Shuttleworth from Carine Senior High School will be vying for the title “Principal of the Year” while Anita Piccioni from Canning Vale College and Steven New from Roebourne District High School have both been nominated for the WA Beginning Teacher of the year category. The WA Education Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony on Monday 28 November.

Congratulations to the many achievements of staff and students, and graduates in September.
