Last week Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Johnson announced a three-year collaboration between the University and the Bloom Lab at St Catherine’s.

As part of the agreement, Bloom and UWA will work together on a number of exciting new initiatives that aim to:

  • Encourage and support youth entrepreneurship;
  • Assist students develop attributes aligned with enterprise and engagement and
  • Foster collaboration between UWA students, alumni and researchers to develop a culture of research enterprise and impact.

Professor Johnson said this is an exciting venture for UWA to be part of and emphasises the University's commitment to becoming a national leader in student entrepreneurship.

“It was clear a few weeks ago at the State Government Innovation Summit that supporting young entrepreneurs is a strategic priority for the future prosperity of our state and nation.

“University study should not be a barrier to entrepreneurship, it should be an enabler and we look forward to working with a new generation of creative problem solvers,” Professor Johnson said.

Professor Johnson said that everyone can help make this vision a reality and reinforced Bloom’s call for UWA staff to support the collaboration.

Bloom’s Shannon Ziegelaar said there were a number ways to help student innovation and entrepreneurship on campus.

“It’s all about spreading the word. Perhaps join the Bloom UWA Facebook community, and keep up to date with news and events and pass this onto to your students.

“Organising guest lecturers from industry, or inviting your students to collaborate with you on projects are also great ways to encourage collaboration,” Shannon says.
