What would our world be like without teachers?  This was the question the Faculty of Education at UWA put forward to Western Australian school students as part of this year's UWA Open Day.

Primary and secondary schools were invited to contemplate and discuss the idea with their students and to reflect on the important work teachers undertake everyday in the classroom.

The winners of this competiton were the talented year one students from Ellenbrook Primary School who received a $200 Dymocks book voucher for their school.  Each student provided a response on what they thought what the world would be like for them if they didn't have teachers to help guide and teach them.

Some of the responses are listed below:

  1. We wouldn’t know how to spell and read words.
  2. We wouldn’t know all of the colours.
  3. We wouldn’t have doctors for when we get sick.
  4. We couldn’t fly planes.
  5. The whole world would never learn

To celebrate the Faculty's centenary, a 'Remembering the past and present' competition was held for staff, students and alumni to participate.  The winner of this competition was Master of Teaching student Olivia Monte who sent a photo of her with a gift she received on her last day on practicum.

"This practicum at a Perth primary school will definitely become one of my core memories of studying education at UWA."

Olivia received a $100 ITunes voucher for submitting a photo of her experience at the Faculty of Education.

Thank you to everyone who participated this year.
