The UWA Business School’s Professor Sharon Parker has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the field of Organisational Behaviour with a prestigious international award.

The 2016 Mentorship Award is conferred by the Organizational Behavior (OB) Division in the Academy of Management. The division comprises over 6000 members from 65 countries, and is focused on research, teaching and engaging with practitioners.

Professor Parker was nominated for the mentorship award by a colleague at The University of New South Wales, with supporting letters from people in Australia, France, German, Belgium, the UK and United States.

In announcing Professor Parker as the Mentorship Award winner, the OB Division said: ”Sharon has mentored many people in her career, both in a formal role as a PhD supervisor, but also informally as a colleague, co-author, friendly reviewer, and AOM [Academy of Management] PDW [Professional Development Workshop] mentor. Without her encouragement our field might have missed some exceptionally bright scholars.

“What is most impressive about Sharon's mentorship is not just the number of people she has mentored, but the quality and way in which she mentors. A distinguishing feature is the proactive way she cares for others: Sharon will take on the role of mentor without being asked, often placing the needs of other before her own. This makes Sharon not only deserving of this award, but a great ambassador to mentorship in our field.”

This award recognises a scholar who has excelled at mentoring others in achieving their career objectives through moral, social, and intellectual support.

Professor Parker’s colleagues at the UWA Business School echoed the OB Division’s comments, and Dean of the UWA Business School Professor Phil Dolan congratulated her on her success.

“We are very fortunate to have Professor Parker as one of our colleagues here at the UWA Business School,” Professor Dolan said. “The Mentorship Award is highly deserved by Sharon, and we congratulate her on the accolade.”

The award will be presented in August at the Academy of Management Conference in Annaheim, United States.
