Thousands of costume-clad UWA students took to the streets of Perth on Wednesday 13 April 2016 to raise money for five local charities as part of PROSH.

The students sold the satirical newspaper and rattled tins throughout the CBD and across the metropolitan area in a tradition dating back to 1931.

The UWA Student Guild, which organises the annual fundraiser, said it was one of the oldest and most successful single-day fundraisers in the country.

In recent years, the event has raised up to $150,000 per year (with proceeds totalling over $1 million in the past decade and at least $2 million for over 100 charities in its 85-year history).

This year, proceeds will support Headspace Osborne Park, Foodbank WA, Tiny Sparks WA, Bicycles For Humanity (WA) Inc., and the Coolbinia Bombers Junior Football Club’s StarKick program.

Dozens of students volunteered their time to produce tongue-in-cheek articles and satirical advertisements for the paper, and thousands arrived at UWA campus before dawn to collect papers and donation tins.

Classes were cancelled for the morning to enable as many students as possible to participate.

Guild President Ms Maddie Mulholland said PROSH is an iconic UWA event and she was pleased to see how much students could raise in one day.

“We encourage Perth residents to support PROSH sellers and dig deep to support our worthy charities," Ms Mulholland said.
