Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Professor Kate Wright to the position of Dean of the Graduate Research School with effect from March 2016.

Professor Wright is presently the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Training at Curtin University, having fulfilled that role since April 2011.

Educated at University College London, Professor Wright is a geoscientist specialising in mineral physics, with a strong track record in publications, grants and research training.   In her current role, she is responsible for the development of policy and strategy relating to research training.

As Dean of the Graduate Research School at UWA, Professor Wright will work with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) to provide effective leadership and management of the Graduate Research School and enhance graduate research training at the University.   She will chair the Scholarships Committee and the Board of the Graduate Research School.

I welcome Professor Wright to UWA and hope you will join me in doing the same.

I would also like to thank and acknowledge Professor Alan Dench for his contribution over the last 6 years, as Dean of Graduate Research and Postdoctoral Training.  He has done an outstanding job in providing national leadership in this area and I wish him well as he returns to his scholarship in linguistics and indigenous languages.

Regards

Robyn Owens

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)
