UWA and the School of Population Health are pleased to announce that the position of Chair in Public Health has been filled by Professor David Preen.

You are probably aware that the School and the University have undertaken an extensive search internationally to fill the Chair in Public Health position following the securing of additional funding and the retirement of E/Prof D’Arcy Holman.  This position is of strategic importance for the School, the University and WA.

We are very pleased to be able to formally announce that Prof David Preen has been offered and accepted  the position.  The Chair in Public Health,  funded by the WA Department of Health is the  pre-eminent Public Health academic position in WA. The role of the Chair is to provide a visionary perspective to the discipline as well as leadership in public health research, education and professional service.   A requirement of the position is that the successful applicant  be an international authority in public health and it is testament to David’s high quality research, teaching and leadership that his appointment from a field of applications received from highly reputed public health scholars across Europe, UK and Asia was endorsed unanimously by the Senate Selection Committee.

David has an excellent research and teaching track record.  His leadership and strategic decision making have been clearly evident to me (and I’m certain to others) in his roles as Deputy Head of School and Director of the Centre for Health Services Research. Not only does David have the demonstrated ability to lead Public Health across the state, he has the capacity and motivation to lead public health agendas nationally and internationally.

Please join us in congratulating David on his appointment to the position of Chair in Public Health and in wishing him all the best for his incumbency.

Congratulations David!
