Every year, a select number of students from Western Australian universities come together to oversee the planning of the annual Fogarty Foundation Postgraduate Forum.The forum is unique to Western Australia being the only one of its kind organised specifically for Higher Degree by Research students by students.

It offers a great opportunity for HDR students to present their education related research to a supportive community who are equally passionate about education and research.

Sonia Ferns is a 2015 Fogarty Foundation Postgraduate Forum committee member dedicated to bringing this event to WA students.  Currently a PhD Candidate, Sonia works at Curtin University as a Project Lead for Work Integrated Learning.

So that you can get to know a little bit more about these hardworking students behind the forum, we’ve asked Sonia to participate in a short Q+A.

Why did you decide to join the Fogarty Forum Committee?
To collaborate with fellow students and benefit from a contributing to a community of practice.

Why do you think it’s important for students to participate in the forum?
The forum is an opportunity to share challenges, successes and ideas and to learn from others.

If you could be a super hero for one day who would it be and why?
Superman - I would love to be able to fly!

What was the last book that read?
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

What is your favourite thing to do in Perth?
Enjoy a meal and a glass of wine at a restaurant overlooking the ocean or the river.

What is your favourite quote of all time?
