St Catherine’s College was proud to celebrate diversity within our community by supporting Wear it Purple Day on Friday, 28 August 2015. More than 60 students joined the Wear It Purple Day celebrations, with staff and students writing Wear It Purple messages of support to add to the wall of purple hearts.

The cause aims to promote a world in which every young person can thrive, irrelevant of sex, sexuality or gender identity.

"At the College, we believe very strongly in promoting a safe and supportive environment for all residents," reported the College newsletter. "We can do this by not only wearing purple to show our support, but also speaking up about issues, whether as a rainbow resident or an ally, challenging the perceptions we currently hold about the LGBTQ community and refusing to settle for anything other than complete respect amongst all of our peers."

Wear it Purple Day was profiled all over the College through its electronic notice board, resident newsletter, and on social media.

UWA's Human Resources Social Club as well as Student Support Services staff also celebrated separate Wear it Purple events in style.

In Human Resources, nearly HR staff members joined the Chief Operating Office's Associate Director and Equity and Diversity Adviser, Annette Black, for a "marvelous" purple-themed event. HR's Laurton McGurk took out the coveted 'best outfit' prize.

All told, the HR Social Club raised over $60 for the worthy cause.

Student Support Services staff wore purple on Friday for a special morning tea and took the opportunity to decorate their meeting room with a rainbow flag and purple balloons. Staff raised $130 for the student-led not-for-profit.
