Chevron Australia Managing Director Roy Krzywosinski has joined the board of the Energy and Minerals Institute (EMI) at The University of Western Australia.

UWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Johnson said the addition of Mr Krzywosinski to EMI's Board of Trustees strengthens a long-established and productive relationship between UWA and Chevron.

" Roy Krzywosinski brings with him a wealth of business knowledge and experience across the global oil and gas sector which is an important focus for EMI," Professor Johnson said.

Mr Krzywosinski said he was honoured to be invited to join the EMI board.

"I look forward to contributing to UWA's commitment to energy research, innovation and education," Mr Krzywosinski said.

"With Western Australia soon to become one of the world's largest natural gas suppliers, this is an exciting time for natural gas development in Australia. These types of strong relationships between research institutes and industry are vital to support innovation across our sector."

In 2008, Chevron selected UWA to join its prestigious global University Partnership Program. The partnership established the Chair in Gas Processing and allied research positions at UWA. It also generates industry-run workshops, seminars, prizes and scholarships, major laboratory equipment and PhD student training.

Mr Krzywosinski joins a high profile board whose members include former Federal Resources Minister the Hon. Martin Ferguson, Rio Tinto Iron Ore Chief Executive Andrew Harding and Shell General Manager of Development (Australia/New Zealand) Terry Freckelton.

Established in 2010, EMI is dedicated to helping solve the challenges faced by participants in the high risk-high reward energy and mining sectors. EMI has developed significant long-term partnerships with the industry, governments and collaborative research groups worth more than $100 million.
