While UWA students have always had plenty of opportunities to engage in extra-curricular community service activities, service learning will be offered for the first time in 2015 through degree-level units, giving students the opportunity to earn credit for making a difference!
In conjunction with Guild Volunteering, UWA is offering two new Level 1 Category B broadening units in the area of service learning in 2015; SVLG1001 (Fundamentals of Service Learning) and SVLG1002 (Service Learning Experience) will be available to all students undertaking any of our undergraduate degrees.
These units will add a dynamic edge to an undergraduate degree by allowing students to connect their University studies with real-life social issues on a local and global scale. Examples of the service learning opportunities available include (but aren't limited to):
- developing marketing strategies for non-profit organisations;
- building a sensory garden for people with disabilities; or
- supporting the rehabilitation of people with a history of drug use.
To find out more about the new broadening units refer to the online flyer . You can also learn more about service learning opportunities at UWA, by watching our video .
