The International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) have recently reported employability issues facing the international education sector in Australia . Some of the issues identified were the disadvantage of international students due to limited local networks and the reluctance of employers to hire international students due to concerns over English language skills.
Ms Jo Hocking from UWA’s Careers Centre supports the findings: “International students often find it challenging to get work. We encourage students to make the most of our services which include employability workshops, resume reviews, CareerHub – our online career information service, and our mentoring program called Career Mentor Link that matches students with industry professionals - in both Perth and Singapore. StudySmarter also offers English language workshops and study skills seminars.”
