School holidays? What school holidays?
Fifty Indigenous students in Years 9 and 10 will be having a different kind of fun when school breaks up at the end of the week - including learning about designing a world championship-winning racing car, launching rockets, extracting DNA from strawberries, experimenting with liquid nitrogen, making moulds of teeth and challenging their sporting abilities.
The students, from all over WA will be at The University of Western Australia from July14 - 18 for the 13 th annual Indigenous Science Camp.
Many students who have enjoyed secondary science camps run by UWA's School of Indigenous Studies over the years have gone on to graduate from UWA and embark on careers in science, health and engineering.
From Albany, Broome, Bunbury, Carnarvon, Dalyellup, Denmark, Derby, Esperance, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Kununurra, Laverton, Manjimup, Morawa, Perth, Port Hedland, Rockingham, Tom Price and Wyndham the students will explore the campus and take part in activities run by the Schools of Physics; Dentistry; Sports Science, Exercise and Health; the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research; student clubs such as Engineers Without Borders and Motorsport; and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology
Indigenous medical, dental, science and engineering students currently studying at UWA will mentor the Year 9s and 10s whose camp is sponsored by Aspire UWA and Woodside.
