Plastering ‘broken' fingers, kung fu, investing in property and shares, building a water filter and having a go at calligraphy are just some of the activities more than 550 year nine students are enjoying at The University of Western Australia this week.

From Perth and the Pilbara, the students from Aspire UWA's metropolitan partner schools, are also in the sixth annual Race Around Campus , an opportunity for them to explore the grounds, participate in hands-on action across a number of disciplines and engage in some friendly rivalry.

Of the seven activities running each day, three are run by student organisations, with student volunteers helping with the other activities.  Aspire UWA's student ambassadors - current uni students - will accompany the groups as the make their way around campus, and share their stories of what life at UWA is like.

This year, regional students are taking part in Race Around Campus for the first time.  Fifty-seven students from the six Pilbara secondary schools, in Perth for a three day camp, will join their metropolitan counterparts for one day of Race Around Campus .  The Pilbara students will also climb Winthrop Tower, participate in a physics workshop and take part in a dance workshop run by the Ochre Contemporary Dance Company - company in residence in the UWA cultural precinct. To really experience uni life, the year nines are staying at Trinity College and will have lunch at University Hall.

Off campus, the students will visit Scitech, have some free time at shopping, and what is sure to be one of the highlights of the camp, an evening river cruise on the Swan River.

The Perth schools involved in Race around Campus are:  Aranmore Catholic College, Balga Senior High School, Ballajura Community College, Belmont City College, Eastern Hills Senior High School, Ellenbrook Secondary College, Gilmore College, Girrawheen Senior High School, Governor Stirling Senior High School, Hamilton Senior High School, John Wollaston Anglican Community School, La Salle College, Lockridge Senior High School, Lumen Christi College, Mercy College, Mirrabooka Senior High School, Morley Senior High School, Swan View Senior High School.

The six Pilbara schools on camp are: Hedland Senior High School, Karratha Senior High School, Newman Senior High School, Roebourne District High School, St Luke's College, Tom Price Senior High School.
