A postgraduate student project and The University of Western Australia's supercomputing hub have been recognised in Western Australia's premier Information and Communications Technologies awards.

PhD student Stuart Speidel, from UWA's School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering , won the ‘Student Domaine' award for his project REView at the 23 rd Western Australian Information Technology and Telecommunications Awards ( WAiTTA ).

REView is a web-based portal software package that collects statistics from electronic vehicle trackers, vehicle charging stations, and on usage of renewable energy resources. REView will enable drivers, fleet managers and charging station operators to make more effective business decisions.

UWA's iVEC facility also won the ‘Society Domaine, Sustainability Category' award for CATAMI (Collaborative and Automated Tools for Analysis of Marine Imagery) - an online data management and image annotation system for marine scientists.

Each year marine scientists collect thousands of images of marine habitats. These raw underwater images need to be manually labelled. CATAMI is an online application that increases the efficiency of marine research by allowing huge volumes of images to be viewed, categorised, archived and annotated.

The WAITTA awards recognise outstanding performance and contributions by members of the ICT community in Western Australia.

As part of the judging process, all finalists were invited to give a 20 minute presentation addressing key WAiTTA criteria such as uniqueness, trendsetting factor, market potential, sustainability and reliability.
