After starting off the year strong with wins at the Mid-West Championships and local competitions, UWA students Tarquin Betuel and Lukas Kuster have claimed medals at the 2014 ITF Taekwon-Do Australian National Championships.The National Championships were held on 17 May 2014 on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, and Lukas and Tarquin made the journey across with nine other competitors.

Commerce student Tarquin won gold medals in the men's heavyweight sparring and coloured belt patterns, while 4th year medicine student Lukas won a silver in the black belt patterns and bronze in lightweight sparring. The duo then teamed up in pre-arranged free sparring to take home a bronze.

Later this year Tarquin will be graded for his black belt and Lukas will be training for his 2nd degree black belt testing in 2015. Meanwhile they will also be preparing for the 2015 World Championship selection trials to be held in October and are on track to outdo their 2013 performance and again represent UWA at the Australian University Games in Sydney later in the year.
