A cookbook created by UWA Publishing has won ‘Best in the World' for the Italian category in the 2014 International Gourmand Awards, at a ceremony in Beijing on 20 May.

Saporito! is by Daniela Pirone and Stefania Muscara , who were semi-finalists on My Kitchen Rules in 2011.

The book also features the work of acclaimed Western Australian food photographer Craig Kinder .

Saporito! competed in its category against cookbooks from Italy, Russia, Canada, Germany and the USA.

The book features ‘campagna' (peasant or country style) cooking from their ancestral Italian region of Naples, which they learnt from years of cooking with their Italian mothers and grandmothers, both in Australia and in Italy.

The 19th Gourmand World Cookbook Awards ceremony for ‘Best in the World' were awarded at the Beijing Cookbook Fair on 20 May 2014 by Gourmand International, a prestigious cookbook publishing network that organises the Paris Cookbook Fair and the Beijing Cookbook Fair.

The Awards celebrate global cookbook and wine book publishing and feature many world renowned chefs.
