The University of Western Australia takes pride in the outstanding quality of its teaching staff at the Albany Centre. The UWA Albany Teaching Excellence Award recognises teachers who make a real difference to the learning experience of students by stimulating curiosity in learning, developing critical thinking and motivating student engagement.

UWA Albany tutor Dr Peter Speldewinde was rewarded for his dedication to helping students to achieve their best by recently being selected for this award.

Renowned for his quirky sense of humour and infectious enthusiasm, Dr Speldewinde is committed to ensuring his students fully grasp the all concepts in each unit he tutors.

Comments from students acknowledged that Dr Speldewinde was an exceptional teacher who is full of encouragement and made tutorials fun. He gave them confidence to discover things for themselves and was patient and considerate.

UWA Albany Centre Director Jennifer O'Neil said it was important to recognise lecturers and tutors who have demonstrated a broad and deep contribution to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching on the Albany Campus.

"We're fortunate in Albany to have many dedicated tutors who are not only passionate about the subjects they teach, but are committed to providing our students have an excellent learning environment that is personal, accessible and rewarding," she said.
