First it was just Winthrop Hall, then it was LUMINOUShall...now we have Gingerbread Hall!IT support officer Sam Thomas has created a replica of Winthrop Hall in gingerbread, complete with internal lights and Centum out the front in the snow with snowmen and candy canes.
"I started doing this a few years ago, with one of those gingerbread house kits," said Sam. "And I thought, well how hard can it be to make your own?
"So last year, when I was in Arts, I created a full-size Mac computer in gingerbread. This year I thought I'd honour the Centenary and do my version of LUMINOUShall."
Sam obtained the original blueprint of Winthrop Hall from FM and made the panels to scale. "I ran out of gingerbread for the tower, so it's not as high as it should be," he said.
The Gingerbread Hall took two weekends to complete and you can follow its construction here.
This week staff are invited to help eat the hall and the piles of lollies left over from the decorating...."sacrificial sweeties, I call them!" said Sam.
If you'd like to share this Christmas treat, pop along to Sam's office, G04 in the Computer Science building. You might like to check that he will be in by calling him on 6488 7082.
