Do you feel safe at work? If so, chances are you have somebody to thank for that feeling of security.
Now is the time to nominate that person or group of people for a UWA Safety Award.
Nominations are open now for the annual awards which will be presented in October, Safe Work Australia month.
There are four UWA Safety Awards: Group (faculty, school or section); Individual; Safety Leadership (individual); and Safety Recognition. Details of all of them are on the UWA Health and Safety page of the University website.
The people who keep our campus safe are mainly volunteers and this is an opportunity for them to be recognised and thanked.
The Group award recognise safety achievements by faculties, schools or sections. The Individual awards for an outstanding contribution by a UWA employee to establishing and maintaining high standards of occupational health and safety.
The Safety Leadership award encourages recognition of heads, managers and supervisors for their efforts to improve or sustain high safety standards.
And the Safety Recognition award can be made to groups or individuals. There are no specific criteria except that it is for a recently completed safety-related project or activity. Last year, it was won by Michael Smirk in the School of Earth and Environment for his initiative in identifying hazardous procedures and reviewing control measures in the school.
Nominations close on Friday 27 September.
