At The University of Western Australia, we are in a unique position to continue to drive the economic future of this State
Our strength - in a time when traditional industries such as manufacturing are in decline - is in our intellectual capital.
I wrote in a recent opinion piece for The West Australian newspaper that we are developing the ideas and technology that will keep UWA at the forefront of the global resources sector. Our researchers already have an enviable reputation for innovation in the oil and gas industry, and many other areas that rely on our high tech solutions.
In the context of government funding cuts, it is important for UWA and other Australian universities to seek support for research funding that will enable us to become a global of centre of excellence in research, particularly in areas crucial to our economic future.
