Tap into your creativity this July with a program of community WINTERarts events to invigorate the mind and warm the soul at The University of Western Australia, including workshops, performances, exhibitions and talks - many of which are free.

WINTERarts takes place throughout July while students are on semester break and parking is easy so everyone can enjoy the University's many galleries, museums and activities on campus.

Come and listen to renowned social researcher and psychologist Hugh Mackay talk about his new book The Good Life , in which he considers the big question: what makes life worth living? His conclusions might surprise.

Another literary luminary, author and travel editor, Stephen Scourfield, will host an evening at the University Club when he will lead you on a literary and culinary journey, bringing together stories from around the world with a dash of cultural significance.

The Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery will be a hub of activity with three exhibitions - ORIENTing:  Ian Fairweather in Western Australian Collections & With or Without You, Towards Perth: Western Australian Women Artists Before 1950, and Little Paintings, Big Stories: Gossip Songs of Western Arnhem Land - and a range of public programs to complement them.

The Berndt Museum will host a free family day on Saturday July 6 with talks, performances and activities.  A guitar concert will set the scene for a special evening viewing of the exhibitions.  There are also workshops - including a free calligraphy workshop at the gallery on Friday July 12 with the Confucius Institute - and free lunchtime curator talks.

There is also an opportunity to find your own literary muse.  UWA Publishing is presenting two creative writing workshops to be held in the gallery's study centre with authors Susan Midalia and Amanda Curtin.

UWA's WINTERarts season also extends to the University's Claremont campus.  A full program of events is available at WINTERarts .
