High-profile business leaders joined senior executives from The University of Western Australia last night in a celebration of the University and UWA Business School at a cocktail party hosted by Business School Board Chairman Dr Mark Barnaba and his wife Paige at their home.

Guests included the Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency Dr Malcolm McCusker; State Opposition Leader Mark McGowan MLA; UWA Chancellor Dr Michael Chaney AO and representatives from several high profile WA companies, including Woodside, Wesfarmers, BHP Billiton, Shell, FMG, Ernst & Young, Gerard Daniels, ATCO Australia and Mitsui.

UWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Johnson emphasised to guests the importance of the University's close links with the corporate community.

"UWA Business School's corporate sponsors have shown extraordinary commitment to education and leadership," Professor Johnson said.

"All around the University, these corporations enable training and a range of research that contributes in important ways to the world's sum of knowledge."

The Dean of the UWA Business School, Winthrop Professor Phil Dolan, said the generous support of the School's many corporate partners, alumni and individual supporters had placed the School in a strong position.

"The support of our partners has allowed us to appoint world-class academics, conduct leading-edge research, provide a range of scholarships and prizes for high-achieving students, and offer our students many valuable opportunities, including attending boardroom lunches and participating in industry visits and mentoring programs," he said.

UWA will celebrate its Centenary in 2013 and welcome alumni and supporters back to the University for a rich program of exciting events throughout the year, starting with a gala on-campus Alumni Weekend February 8-10 and LUMINOUSnight - a celebration of art and culture featuring a spectacular filmic projection on Winthrop Hall.
