student Timothy Lefroy is one of just eight Australian university students who have been selected to participate in the Mitsui Educational Foundation's 2012 study tour.
During the three-week tour, Timothy will have the opportunity to visit Mitsui's Tokyo headquarters, tour Nippon Steel and Toyota factories, and receive a briefing on bilateral relations from the Australian Ambassador to Japan.
Timothy, who is studying a Bachelor of Commerce, will also attend an international politics class at Keio University, complete a homestay with a Japanese family, and visit sites of historical and cultural significance in five Japanese cities.
The tour is sponsored by the Mitsui Educational Foundation, and seeks to expose undergraduate students to Japan's history, business, industry, contemporary and traditional culture, and relationship with Australia.
Since its establishment in 1971, the Mitsui Educational Foundation has given over 300 students from 22 Australian universities the opportunity to visit and learn about Japan. The Foundation selects applicants who are viewed as outstanding representatives of their university and Australia, academically capable, and interested in learning about Japan.
Many past participants of the program now hold senior positions across a variety of sectors.
The Mitsui Educational Foundation's 2012 tour will take place from 20 November to 11 December.
