Harold Clough, one of Western Australia's foremost engineers, will today join the ranks of graduates of The University of Western Australia in celebrating UWA's first 100 years, while also helping future students.

The Graduates' Walk - launched last year by UWA's Centenary Trust for Women - provides past graduates with the opportunity to celebrate their time at UWA with an engraved paver to mark their place in time with other UWA graduates.

The granite pavers are laid around the perimeter of the University's historic Oak Lawn and each graduate's name, qualifications and year of graduation.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Johnson will launch the second phase of the project, with Dr Clough and five of his children among 98 new names to join the existing 157 pavers, near UWA's Law Library at 5pm today.  Other prominent graduates include leading WA businesswoman Janet Holmes a Court, her daughter Catherine and Azure Capital Executive Chairman John Poynton.

Chair of the Centenary Trust for Women, Dr Erica Smyth, said as well as providing graduates with a permanent acknowledgement of their University degree, the Graduates' Walk project also played an important role in the wider community.

"Through the Centenary Trust for Women, the Graduates' Walk is helping female students in need of financial help through scholarships and emergency or hardship funds," Dr Smyth said.  "Already at least 27 students have benefited from these funds."

Professor Johnson said the Graduates' Walk had attracted the interest of alumni who had not been back to the UWA campus for many years.

"It also helps bring together families from different parts of the State, country and around the world," he said.  "We are confident it will continue to encourage alumni to revisit our campus, bringing with them their respective families and friends."
