Former Federal Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner will discuss politics and the media in a public lecture, " Taming the Feral Media ", at The University of Western Australia next week.

According to Mr Tanner, Australia has some exciting opportunities and interesting challenges at our doorstep but the media would have us believe it's all doom, fear and gloom.

After retiring from politics in 2010, Mr Tanner published a book Sideshow: Dumbing Down Democracy , about the media's influence on politics.

The lecture, presented by UWA Extension and sponsored by BHP Billiton, will be held at The University Club of Western Australia on Thursday 10 May at 7pm. Tickets are $10 and bookings are recommended on 6488 2433.
