The Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery is hosting a special event tomorrow, Saturday 25 February, to celebrate its new exhibition Purnu, Tjanpi, Canvas: Art of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands .

This exhibition features the dynamic works of Western Desert Ngaanyatjarra artists, and includes:

  • acrylic paintings
  • wood carving
  • grass weaving.

Tomorrow's event gives members of the public an opportunity to meet and share stories with the artists and art centre staff, as well as gain insight into the art works on display.

At 2.15 pm the Western Desert Mob - Ngaanyatjarra artists will conduct a Walking Tour during which they will share stories about their work, art centres and Country.

Later in the afternoon, at 3pm, Co-Curators Tim Acker and John Carty, will also host a gallery tour and discuss the following:

  • their roles as co-curators
  • the artists and their remarkable works
  • the relationship between the exhibition and the book "Ngaanyatjarra - Art of the Lands'
  • John Carty will discuss what makes Ngaanyatjarra art different .

During the afternoon, visitors can also enjoy Tjanpi desert weaving demonstrations.
